| FAST Activities - Providing Family Education on Preventing Substance Abuse | |

FAST promotes
prevention by providing; healthy family activities without the use of
substances, an Alcohol and other Drugs prevention night (AOD), TARWARS
5th grade presentations, and prevention counseling. |

AOD Prevention NightOn the 5th or 6th night of the FAST program an 1-1/2 hour presentation is conducted by a licensed substance abuse counselor. The substance abuse counselor discusses drug prevention and how the parents can get help for their families. A video is presented to the families to open discussions initially for the families and then to the entire group. Families are encouraged to answer questions and learn from one another on the importance of drug and alcohol prevention. |

FAST Activities are Substance Abuse FreeResearch suggest, that family activities that don't involve substance use strengthen the likelihood of children not becoming substance users or abusers. |

Research further suggest, that shared family activities that don't involve substance use, builds family resistance to alcohol or other drug abuse. |

TARWARS 5th Grade PresentationsTARWARS is
a presentation conducted by trained FAST staff members, which focuses
on 5th grade students, engaging them in discussion and education regarding
the use of tobacco products. Research suggests, that 5th grade students
are the most likely to be drawn to use of tobacco products. |

Prevention CounselingA service
provided to program participants, which focuses on helping them help themselves
by providing guidance and referral service. Participants can receive individual
and family intervention counseling for marital situations, behavioral
problems, school issues, and other school related problems. The counseling
services are at no cost to the program participants. |
