| FAST Activities - Providing Positive Family Bonding Activities | |
|
The FAST
agenda is made up of family bonding activities including; the family flag,
the FAST song, Mealtime, and Scribbles and Feelings Charades (communication
activities). |
|
Family Flag ActivityThe first activity in which FAST families have the opportunity to start bonding is in the creation of their family flag. In this activity families create a kind of family crest. As a family, members decide the colors, shapes, symbols, designs or words that will be on their flag. Each family member takes a turn contributing an important part to this flag. |
|
Feelings CharadesThe ability to share feelings can be very difficult. With Feelings Charades FAST allows family members to "act out" feelings. Each family member is invited to take a card from the supply table with a feeling on it. The family members then go to their table and take turns acting out the feeling while the other family members guess the feeling. |
FAST Sing Along SongMusic is an important part of FAST. The FAST song is sung each night of the program. This simple song creates a common and non-threatening bond that makes parents and children feel accepted. |
|
FAST Family MealtimeIn this day in age getting a family to sit down for dinner is very challenging. FAST provides families the opportunity to sit and eat together as a family. |
ScribblesScribbles is a two part activity. First family members are given a sheet of paper with a scribble on it. Without peeking at each other, each member makes a drawing out of the scribble. After time has run out for drawing the most important part of the activity is just beginning. |

Positive
Family Experiences in FAST
|
|
|
Parent Support GroupIn the weekly
and monthly sessions, the parents participate in a parent self-help group
that reduces feelings of loneliness and gives them opportunities to share
their experiences, and enjoy the companionship with other parents and
gives them the confidence to seek outside resources they may need to help
themselves or their children. |
|
As part of
the FAST program, parents are connected with community resources through
the team members or the other parents. This process encourages parents
to take up leadership responsibilities. They can further do this by becoming
a member of the FASTWORKS Parent Advisory Council or by becoming a FAST
Team Member. |
