Is the FAST program FREE?

Yes. There is no charge to your family for participating in this project.

Can my whole family attend the FAST program?

Yes, in fact, Family Service Association and the FAST program encourage all of the family members to participate.

Is there childcare available during the FAST program?

Childcare assistance is provided for the family during the evening sessions of the FAST program. The FAST team members will work with the parent(s) to make sure that they can work effectively with their children during the program.

Does the program provide transportation?

Yes, transportation is provided to and from the weekly program.

How does my child get selected for FAST?

Teachers or counselors at FAST schools nominate children for the program.  The team members then contact the parents to sign the family up.  Some families make the first contact with the school to get into FAST.

Is FAST the same program that goes bowling, swimming and has picnics at the park?

Once families have graduated from the FAST program, they are encouraged to participate in the follow up monthly meetings called  FASTWORKS.  The activities of the FASTWORKS program are structured and planned by the parents and may include bowling, swimming, movies, and picnics at the park.

Does FAST provide counseling?

Yes, families are eligible for individual or family counseling at any point in their relationship to the FAST program.  The counselors generally meet with the families at the school or another convenient location. If you feel that you or your family would benefit be receiving counseling services and are not associated with the FAST program, Family Service Association offers affordable counseling services where the fees are structured on a sliding scale fee based on your income.  Contact our Client Service Coordinator at (210) 226-3391 for more information.

Yes, meals are provided during the FAST Family mealtime activity.

What is the FASTWORKS Carnival?

Families that graduate from FAST are encouraged to continue their supportive relationships with one another and participate in fun healthy family activities that continue to reinforce the skills they previously learned in FAST.  The FASTWORKS Carnival brings together all of the children and their families to celebrate their accomplishments.  This event offers an opportunity to reinforce the network of support they established in FAST.
