Family Service Association of San Antonio, Inc. offers a wide variety of counseling programs for groups, families, and individuals. Our counselors, both English and Spanish speaking, are trained to provide understandable answers to your questions and offer the support you need to make your own sound decisions and deal with life’s changes.  All counselors are master-level and fully licensed.  

Fees are on a sliding scale based on your ability to pay.  Intake process usually takes 5 - 7 minutes and is completed over the telephone.

Play Therapy

For children between the ages of 3-12 years old.

Play therapy is a method of counseling with children that uses both play (children's natural form of communication) and verbal communication.  Play therapy helps the child express thoughts feelings, conflicts, confusion, and curiosity.  During play therapy the child can practice social skills,  overcome upsets, traumas, or frightening feelings.  Play therapy makes every effort to help the child express his/her needs and allow the child to discover solutions in a safe environment for the child to heal and grow.

Crisis Management

A crisis is any emotion charged event or situation beyond the usual expected stresses of everyday life that can cause emotional and physical reactions.

Family Service Association has experienced, professional Crisis Management team, trained in responding to all types of Crises, available to groups, organizations, and the public, subject to all events.

Anger Resolution

The purpose of this course is to introduce and support a complete plan for proper resolution of personal anger.  This course is designed to aid participants through a long-term position by the use of handouts and referral sources.  

The class is taught in an educational format and is not meant to be a substitute for any form of therapy that may be needed, rather this course is a supplement to therapy.  The course is taught in a adaptable manner and is meant to meet the needs to the particular class. 

Classes meet once a week for one-hour session for eight course weeks.  In order for participants to receive a certificate of completion they must attend all eight session. 

Individuals attending this course may be self referred or court mandated. 

The classes satisfy the requirements for either criminal or family court.

For adults 21 years and older

8-week format/1 hour per week

By attending this course you will:

  • Learn about personal contributions to anger.
  • Complete two self-evaluations to aid in your self-discovery.
  • Learn new options for your anger triggers.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs

These counseling services are mandated by the court for minors under the age of 21 who have received a citation for being found in possession of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.  The state currently mandates six hours in awareness classes.

For individuals aged 14 to 21 years old
Format is 3 to 4 weeks / 2 hours per week
Certificate is provided upon completion of the course and all requirements have been met.
